Carol Kathleen Ellefson passed away on March 13, 2026, at the age of 81. Carol was known for her warmth, kindness, and the way she made time for the people she loved.
Born on July 4, 1944, Carol was the daughter of Leonard and Grace Alton and grew up in Costa Mesa, California. She attended Costa Mesa High School, where she built lifelong friendships and a deep love for her hometown community.
From an early age, Carol loved animals. Her father raised goats and chickens, and over her lifetime she cared for many beloved pets, including dogs, cats, fish—and even a raccoon.
Carol also loved to sing. She was a member of the Irvine Valley College chorus and was honored to sing in the opening ceremony of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
Soon after graduating from high school, Carol attended Orange Coast College and began her career with W.D. Schock Corporation, a sailboat company she was proud to call her work family. She recently celebrated an extraordinary milestone—60 years with W.D. Schock—an achievement that reflected her loyalty, dedication, and steady presence over the decades.
In April 1984, Carol married Bruce Dean Ellefson. Together they made their home in Corona, California, after moving from Orange County. Their life was grounded in commitment, family, and the everyday moments they shared.
Carol loved talking and visiting with family and friends, and her genuine care for others could be felt in every conversation. Although she did not have children of her own, she treated her nieces and nephews—Jana, Bryn, Brett, and Ellie—as if they were her own, offering encouragement, support, and a listening ear whenever it was needed.
Carol is survived by her nieces Jana Geissinger and Ellie Horner, and her nephews Bryn Horner and Brett Horner.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bruce Dean Ellefson, and by her sister and brother-in-law, Luanna and George Horner.
Carol will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
