Caroline Sue "Sis" Owens, 79, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, in her hometown of Springfield.
Born on April 24, 1946, in Springfield, Caroline was the daughter of Howard and Jenny (Reese) Lough. She graduated from Northwestern High School in 1965, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life defined by strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those around her. The values she carried from her early years—loyalty, resilience, and deep community ties—remained at the heart of everything she did.
Caroline began her professional journey at a bank in downtown Springfield. When her husband Robert Lee Owens' pipeline work took the family across the country, she adapted with grace and purpose, always placing her family's well-being at the center of her life. Upon returning to Springfield, she found her true calling at the Masonic Home, where she worked for over 30 years. Starting in the laundry department, Caroline's quiet determination and natural leadership led her to become supervisor and eventually director of housekeeping. Her care extended beyond tasks—it reached into the lives of those she served.
Her most cherished role came as director of activities at the Masonic Home. There, Caroline created moments of joy and connection for residents through thoughtful events and heartfelt interactions. Whether leading group activities or offering one-on-one companionship, she made each person feel seen and valued. Her work was more than a job—it was an expression of her faith and a ministry of kindness.
Caroline also treasured the time she spent working at Willee's alongside her younger brother and older sister—a memory that remained close to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert Lee Owens; her parents Howard and Jenny (Reese) Lough; her sister Janet Zimmerman; and nephews Tony Mooney and Andy Lough.
She is lovingly remembered by her sons Bobby (Melissa) Owens and Johnny (Kimberly) Owens; sister Francis (John) Baughman; brothers Ron (Shawna) Lough, Bud (Betty) Lough, John (Robin) Lough, and Dan (Sally) Lough; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and fourteen nieces and nephews.
Caroline's life was rich with love for family and community. She found immense joy in cheering on her sons and extended family at sporting events—whether in backyards or stadiums—and never missed a chance to root for her beloved Cincinnati Bengals and Reds. Game days were sacred in her home.
Her kitchen was always open—no matter the hour—and anyone who walked through her door left with a full stomach and an even fuller heart. Holidays on Penny Pike were legendary: filled with food, laughter, decorations, and traditions that brought generations together under one roof. Her home wasn't just a place—it was the heart of the family.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Caroline lived out her beliefs through service, forgiveness, and unconditional love. Her presence offered comfort; her words carried wisdom; her actions spoke louder than any sermon ever could. To know Caroline was to feel welcomed without question—seen without judgment—and loved without limit.
She had a gift for making people feel like they mattered. Whether through a warm meal, a kind word, or simply listening with full attention, she left an imprint on every soul she encountered. Her love was not loud or boastful—it was steady, generous, and ever-present.
Caroline enjoyed life's simple pleasures: watching sports with family nearby, keeping a spotless home filled with warmth, or relaxing quietly with a Natural Light in hand—grateful for all that life had given her.
