Catherine Mary Casey

Catherine Mary Casey (Sugrue), 94, the beloved matriarch of the Casey Family died peacefully with her family by her side on November 19, 2025, after a brief illness. Catherine was an incredibly strong, independent women, wife, mom and friend to many.

Catherine was born, raised in Lettercastle, Cahersiveen County Kerry, Ireland. She was the youngest of 5. At age 19, her cousin Margaret sponsored her and her cousin Bridie to come to America. In 1949, Catherine and Bridie left home to start their new lives in America. Shortly after Catherine returned home to Ireland to marry John Casey. Soon after, the two traveled to Cambridge, MA where they built a new life and family of 5 Joe (now deceased), Kathy, Peggy, Arlene and John. Catherine was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest son started school then she went to work at Harvard Business School until she retired. Retirement was not for her, so she started her own business until she was 94 years old which she reluctantly gave up.

Catherine is survived by her sister Mary Norman of Peterborough, Ontario, her daughter-in-law Candace Casey of Worcester, MA, her daughter Kathleen Masucci and husband Richard of Winthrop, MA, her daughter Margaret Casey-Mederios and husband Frank Mederios of Winthrop, her daughter Arlene Casey of Salem and son John Casey of Winthrop. Catherine is also survived by her grandchildren including Ben and his wife Brianne Casey of Cohasset, MA, Alex and Sarah Casey of South Orange, NJ, Richard and Amalie Masucci of Winchester, MA, Ryan Masucci of Winthrop, MA, Matthew and Julie Masucci of Charlestown, MA, Mairead Mederios and fiancé Bill Sakany, Timothy Connors of Billerica, MA, Joshua Connors and Josipa Milanovic-Connors of Wakefield, MA, Kathryn Connors and her fiance Ned of Detroit, MI, Jake Connors of Manchester NH, Kyle Casey of Cambridge, MA and Collin Casey of Arlington, VA. Catherine is also survived by 12 beautiful great grandchildren.

Visiting Hours will he held for the Keefe Funeral Home, 2175 Mass Ave, NORTH CAMBRIDGE, on Sunday, November 30th from 2:00 - 5:00PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Paul's Church, Bow and Arrow Street, Harvard Square, CAMBRIDGE, on Monday, December 1st at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in Cambridge Cemetery.
