Catherine "Kay" Anne Belbot

Catherine "Kay" Belbot, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, educator, and woman of deep faith, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 16, 2026, with her beloved husband by her side. She was 81.

Kay was born on June 28, 1944, in Easton, Maryland, and raised in Essex, where she built a life rooted in family, faith, and community. She was the daughter of Joseph and Kit Whelehan and the loving older sister of Susan, Michael (deceased), Bobby, and Jack.

She shared nearly 60 years of marriage with her husband, Ronald Belbot, a partnership defined by love, devotion, and unwavering support. Together, they raised three sons—Bill (Lesley), Brian (Kim), and Steven (Felicia)—who were the pride and joy of her life.

Kay was a proud and loving grandmother to nine grandchildren—Max, Mason, Blake, Jack, Maggie, Harry, Spencer, Hannah, and Isabella—and a great-grandmother to Nora. Nothing brought her greater happiness than time spent with her family, celebrating not just their accomplishments, but the people they had become.

A lifelong educator, Kay attended Mt. Carmel School and Catholic High School before earning degrees from the University of Maryland and Towson University. She dedicated more than 30 years to teaching in Baltimore County, Baltimore City, and the Archdiocese of Baltimore, including Queen of Peace and St. Clare's. She impacted generations of students with her patience, kindness, and steady guidance.

Kay's faith was the foundation of her life. A longtime member of St. Clare's Church in Essex—where she was also married—she later found a deep spiritual home at Our Lady of Queen of Peace. Her relationship with God was personal and unwavering, reflected in her humility, compassion, and the quiet, consistent way she lived her life.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures—playing cards, Scrabble, watching game shows, and spending time with family. She even learned to "tolerate" golf over the years to support her husband, a small but meaningful expression of her love.

In May 2025, Kay was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. With remarkable strength and faith, she entered remission in November and was able to enjoy the holidays surrounded by her family. She later spent February in Florida with her husband before the cancer returned. She faced her illness with grace, peace, and unwavering faith until the end.

Kay will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her selflessness, and her ability to make everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. She lived her faith not only in words, but through her actions—quietly, consistently, and authentically—and leaves behind a legacy that will endure through her family for generations.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A Mass will be held on Friday, March 20 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Queen of Peace, 10003 Bird River Rd, Middle River, MD, followed by a Celebration of Life at Sparrows Point Country Club, 919 Wise Ave, Baltimore, MD.
