Chad Thomas Malloy passed away on December 11, 2025, at the age of 39.
Chad was born on April 18, 1986, in Grand Junction, Colorado, to Mark and Betty (Garrido) Malloy, who survive him. He is also survived by his siblings, Audrey (Josh Miller) and Zachary (Paige Hoover), as well as his grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
As the firstborn grandson living away from Key West, Florida, Chad's late Papa used the local bubba system to have him named the youngest honorary Conch—an honor commemorated by a photograph with the mayor that was published in the local paper. This early recognition set the tone for a life marked by living on his own terms.
Chad did not follow a traditional path and was always willing to try new experiences, including living in Seattle, Hawaii, and Guam. He was not interested in a career that ruled his life; instead, he chose work that supported the life he wanted and approached it with a strong work ethic. Chad was known for his ingenuity and sense of humor. He will be fondly remembered for singing "Don't Worry, Be Happy" while riding comfortably in a hiking backpack as the adult carrying him struggled; for letting his little sister climb into bed whenever she had a nightmare; for using muffin tins instead of oars to row a boat; and for unexpectedly wading into the Puget Sound to catch a dogfish with his bare hands—along with countless other unforgettable stories.
Chad had a deep love for his friends, family, the ocean, music, and animals. He often stayed in contact by sending photos and videos of his loyal companion Lobo, the horses he worked with as a ranch hand, the wildlife he encountered, and even others' pets he cared for. He will be remembered for his curiosity, originality, and his sense of loyalty to the people in his life.
We miss Chad and love him—now and always.
