Charlene Elaine Strain (née Smith), age 54, passed away on January 15, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, after a lengthy illness. Born on June 7, 1971, in Cleveland, Ohio, Charlene brought warmth and joy to those around her throughout her life.
Charlene was the beloved daughter of the late Robert and MaryAnn Smith. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Peggy Shack and husband Mike, her brother Robert Smith and wife Lea, and her children Georgie Strain and spouse Brandi, and Daughter Brittany . Her significant other and best friend, Joe Craig Cheek, stood faithfully by her side; his children—Jareth, Jubal, and Kayla Cheek—also held a special place in Charlene's heart.
She was a devoted grandmother to six grandchildren who brought immense joy into her life. Her extended family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins will deeply miss her presence.
Charlene had a passion for baking and cooking for her family. Her delicious Christmas cookies became a cherished tradition that will live on in the memories of those fortunate enough to enjoy them. Her infectious laugh and beautiful smile lit up every room she entered. Above all else, Charlene's love for families—her own and others—was the cornerstone of her life.
Though she faced health challenges in recent years, Charlene met them with courage and grace. She may now rest peacefully, free from pain and no longer confined to a wheelchair. May she find comfort reunited with her parents.
A celebration of Charlene's life will be held at a future date.
Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
