Charles Robert Givens, Sr

Charles Robert "Bob" Givens, Sr., age 95, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, in Lawndale, California. A longtime resident of Southern California, Bob was born on November 10, 1930, in Los Angeles to Charles Roger Givens and Blanche Evelyn Mahoney.

Bob dedicated much of his life to serving his community as a school bus driver for the Inglewood School District. His years behind the wheel were marked by reliability and care, safely transporting generations of students and contributing to the daily rhythm of school life. After retiring, he remained a familiar face in the neighborhood and continued to be active in his personal passions.

A devoted member of the Church of the Nazarene in Hawthorne, California, Bob found strength and fellowship through his faith. His connection to the church was a meaningful part of his life and provided him with a strong spiritual foundation.

In his leisure time, Bob enjoyed gardening—a hobby that brought him peace and satisfaction. Whether tending to flowers or cultivating vegetables, he took pride in nurturing life from the soil.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Janice Givens; his son, Charles Givens Jr.; his daughter, Teresa Alcantara; and his brother John Edward "Jack" Givens. He also leaves behind a cherished legacy through his grandchildren: Kristina (Givens) Rodriguez, Cody Givens, Ryan Givens, Justine (Givens) Erickson, Alyssa Alcantara, Jessica Alcantara, and Cassidy Alcantara; and great-grandchildren: Orin Ernst, Orihime Rodriguez, Jadayn Portanova, Nicolas Diaz, Camila Diaz, Ava Erickson, Shane Erickson, Lewis Erickson, Clark Erickson

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers George Roger "Bud" Givens and Donald Michael "Mick" Givens; and other loved ones who went before him.

May Charles Robert "Bob" Givens, Sr. be remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew him. A Graveside Service will be held on February 17, 2026, at 02:00 PM at Pacific Crest Cemetery 2701 182 St, Redondo Beach, CA. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your local Humane Society.
