Charles passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025. He was born in Independence, Louisiana to Roby Jackson and Doretha Butler.
Originally from Independence, Louisiana, he later settled in New Orleans and attended John H. Martin High School. He accepted Christ as his personal savior at a young age and was baptized at St. James Baptist Church by the late Reverend Eugene Wilson.
He is the former husband of Vanessa Veal Jackson and the father of the late Regina Veal Jackson Deshon "Deedie." He is also the stepfather of Donald "Duck" Veal and Felicia "Lisa" Veal and was a companion of Vermonia "Mona" Wilson for 22 years.
He was a God-fearing man who had an unwavering and unconditional love for his late mother, Doretha.
Charles valued spending time with his family, attending gatherings with his children, siblings, nieces, and nephews. He was present at various events such as weddings, barbecues, fish fries, and Sunday dinners. He demonstrated dedication to his family, notably serving as a caregiver for Mona.
Charles enjoyed spending time with family and friends, showcasing his dance moves at the lakefront, on shows like Eddie Three Way Dance Show, and in late-night battles with his siblings. Music and gatherings were where he felt happiest.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Roby Jackson and Doretha Butler; two sisters Jane Parker and Joyce J. Ladner.
He is survived by his companion Mona, his children Donald and Lisa Veal, nine grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. His devoted siblings include Priscilla Alexander (Landis), Vanessa Duplessis (the late Wardell), Rebecca Hudson (James), Harry Alexander (Grace), Kevin Alexander (Alva), and Caretha Thompson (Johnell). Other surviving relatives are nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Olive Branch Baptist Church, 1134 Odeon St. in New Orleans. Rev. Dr. Reginald Nicholas, Sr., Officiating.
