Charles Stephen "Steve" Kunz

Charles Stephen “Steve” Kunz of Chandler, Arizona, passed away of natural causes on January 5, 2026, at the age of 57.

Born June 1968 in a U.S. Army hospital in Landstuhl, Germany, Steve traveled with his parents and older sister through several military duty assignments before settling in Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Eventually, the family relocated to the Phoenix area, where Steve grew up and attended school.

At age 14, Steve began his denturist career as an apprentice. Restoring smiles and confidence became a lifelong calling. He took pride in his craftsmanship, but even more in caring for the people he served. Helping others was not just what he did. It was who he was.

From childhood, Steve’s favorite pastime was fishing. He was happiest in the sun and on the water, drawn to both the challenge of the chase and the thrill of the catch. Many of his fondest memories were made on the lakes of Arizona.

Steve loved God deeply, finding solace, comfort, courage, and healing in his faith. He enjoyed listening to Christian music on K-Love and was actively involved with his CR “brothers” and ministry at Compass Christian Church, where he experienced community and purpose. His faith shaped the way he lived each day.

One of the things we will miss most is Steve’s bright smile and unmistakable belly laugh when something truly struck him as funny. When he laughed, it filled the room. You felt it. Standing 6'2", Steve was truly a gentle giant who was warm, loving, and deeply devoted to his family and friends.

Steve is survived by his sister, Cheryl Mostrom Cecil (Brett); nephew Stephen Mostrom (Donna); nieces Lindsay Mostrom and Heather Mostrom; and great-nephews Rowan Mostrom and Theodore Mostrom. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Helen “Sandy” Kunz, in 2015, and his father, John Edward Kunz, in 2018.

A service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in the chapel at Compass Christian Church, 1825 S. Alma School Road, Chandler, AZ 85286. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to Compass Christian Church or to K-Love radio station.
