Charles “Jerry” Lemich passed away peacefully in the early morning of January 23, 2026, at Talbot Hospice House in Easton, Maryland.
Jerry was born in Washington, D.C., to Charles and Mabel Lemich. Soon after, the family moved to Kensington, Maryland, settling alongside Rock Creek Park. Over the years, the Lemich household grew to include twin brothers Gene and Jeff, followed by brother Jon, sister Joan, and finally—“oops”—Julie. Countless adventures were had in the woods behind their home and along the creek. The blue-eyed Lemich kids and their dog, Midnight, were a familiar sight and hard to miss.
Jerry attended Walter Johnson High School until a serious accident left him sidelined for nearly a year. He suffered multiple broken bones in his legs, requiring numerous surgeries and resulting in permanent impairment—challenges he carried with a quiet resilience for the rest of his life. In his later years, Jerry was also diagnosed with a genetic form of ALS, which he faced with strength, grace, and his trademark warmth.
Jerry lived a life marked by independence and adventure. He held various jobs and traveled the world. Lived in West Virginia for a number of years and spent winters in Key West. He eventually made his way to St. Petersburg, FL where he drove for DART and also transported travelers to and from the airport.
In 2012 Jerry made his home in Gulfport, Florida, where he found a true sense of community. Riding his scooter through Town Shores and around Gulfport, he talked with everyone he met. Neighbors regularly stopped by with groceries, home-cooked meals, and friendship, always looking out for him. Jerry’s smile could light up a room, and he shared it freely with all.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mabel Lemich; his brother, Jon Lemich; and his sister, Joan Hoover.
He is survived by his brothers Eugene Lemich and Jeffrey Lemich (Nancy); his sister Julie Burleson (Steve); several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends who will miss him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, please take time to spread a little cheer wherever you go. Be kind, and look after your neighbors—it makes a tremendous difference and would mean the world to Jerry.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Gulfport at a later date.
