Charles A Phillips 1970-2026

Charles A. Phillips was 55 years old (although he would never admit it) when he was killed in a motor vehicle accident near his home in New Orleans on February 14, 2026. He was my little brother.

Charlie was born in Philadelphia in 1970 to Joan and Fred who realized very early that they had their hands full. He was born without the ability to sit still or be quiet and as soon as he could speak, he never stopped! My parents each had a solution, Dad had us hiking, camping and in scouting hoping to wear him down. It didn't work- but he did become an Eagle Scout, making my father the proudest I ever saw him. Mom's solution was genius, The Theater, and that sparked his lifelong love of performing and the arts. He may have also been the world's worse cook, some of us still bear the scars of his lasagna.

He held a BA in Communications and Theater from the University of the Arts with additional studies in Italian Renaissance Art. This background provided a unique creativity and gift for connecting with people. When he realized there was a good chance he would starve as an actor (as many great actors do) he changed his attention to business and the world of consulting. Having had a very respectable 30-year career working with PWC, and Deloitte, he retired in 2024.

Charlie was also a committed community leader generously giving his time and expertise to the boards of LifeWorks, The Long Center for the Performing Arts, and Ballet Austin. His volunteer work reflected many of his passions, arts and culture, civil rights, social action, human rights, science and technology.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Joan and Fred and is survived by me his brother Frederick, sister-in-law Janet, nieces and nephews, Leah, Jacob, Sarah and Austyn. Cousin Michael. His Godchildren, Hawkins, Windsor, and Westlyn Blackstone and his adopted nieces and nephew, Zoe Abigail Segura, Zachary Zavier, and Zoe Elise Walgren.

The number of people his life touched is unfathomable, he will be missed by more people than I will ever know. There will be a "Celebration of Life" in Austin, TX. Date TBD.
