Charles Simington

Charles Simington was born October 6, 1966 in Gary, IN to John Simington & Rita Whickem. He made his transition to be with the Lord Saturday, January 24, 2026. Charles was a kind and loving man with an infectious laugh. Since the age of five his favorite hobby and pastime was playing basketball. Charles led his team to a Championship scoring 30 points while playing with a broken leg at Williams Elementary School. He was a part of the 7th & 8th grade Championship team at Dunbar Pulaski Middle School. Charles went on to play High School Basketball at Horace Mann, (Class of 1985). Charles was in the starting line up as a freshman on the varsity team. While at Horace Mann he was selected several times to the All-Northwestern Conference Teams and voted Player of the Week on numerous occasions. Charles was a candidate for Mr. Basketball of Indiana 1983-84 season. He was voted in the Top 50 players in the Nation 1983-84 season. Charles was voted in the Top All American BC Camp 1983-84 season. Charles received basketball scholarships and played at both Fort Scott in Kansas City Mo, and Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas. To know Charles was to love him. Charles, take your wings and rest. We all love you and miss you already. Charles was preceded in death by his father John Simington, Sister Chymane Whickem, Grandparents Dorothy Simington, Rosa & Hosid Sr, Whickem and uncle Hosid Whickem Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories of three loving children Latriece Futrell, Nicole Simington, and Dominique Simington, Sister Sharmette Simington, Brother Norman McGhee III. Aunts Janice Kirk, Aline (James) Joyce, Lavina Kimbrough. Uncles Larry Simington and Link Reed. Six grandchildren Terrion Futrell, Chyere Brumfield, Chyenee Brumfield, Meah Fortune, Mekhy Fortune, and Khari Simington. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Favorite Cousin Trina (Steven) Hawkins-Staten. Funeral service will be held Friday, February 6, 2026 at McDuffie Funeral Home 1525 Broadway Gary, IN 46407.
