Charles Scott Zahul, 65, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, in Roanoke, Virginia, after courageously battling pancreatic cancer for the past year.
Charles was born on June 15, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan to the late William Zahul Jr and the late Frances Jean (Maitland) Zahul. A proud native of Detroit, he was a devoted fan of the Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Tigers. In 1966 the family moved to Florida where he resided off and on until 2016. Graduating from Satellite High School in 1979, it was in Indian Harbor Beach that he discovered his love for the water, and fishing, spending a lot of time outdoors with family, and the many friends he’d made there.
Moving to Roanoke to be with his two boys, Charles II and William, he lived his best life. It was there he found being with his family was where he was supposed to be, they needed him and he needed them as well. He loved playing league pool with his son Charlie, where he made so many friends it was hard to go anywhere without running into someone they both knew and hearing a “Hi Pops!”. Will and Charles had a special bond as well, they loved cooking together, and he was a good cook, also watching cooking shows together. Music and singing was important to them as well. He never missed a chance to belt out a song on car rides with his sons! Charles also never missed an opportunity to sing karaoke!
Charles was also well traveled, visiting many places from Las Vegas, to Myrtle Beach, to New York, and even Dubai. He also never forgot his Florida family and went back many times to visit them all.
He is survived by his sons, William and Charles II, his sister, Valerie McMillen (Scott), and his brothers, Terry Zahul (Kathy), and William Zahul III (late wife Debbye), along with his cherished grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family.
A memorial service to celebrate Charles’s life will be announced at a later date.
Charles will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for his kindness, his laughter and smile, his devotion to family, and his unwavering faith.
