Cheryl Ann Dickerson, lovingly known as "Cherry," was born on March 29, 1948, in Gary, Indiana. She transitioned peacefully on March 28, 2026, just one day before her 78th birthday.

Cherry lived a life that was complex, and uniquely her own. Like many, she faced personal struggles and challenges that shaped her journey.

Yet, her story did not end there. In her later years, she experienced a meaningful transformation, rededicating her life to Christ and embracing a path of spiritual growth, reflection, and renewal.

Through her faith she began to walk in a new way, seeking peace and purpose.

She was a faithful member of Gary Christian Center, served on the Usher Board and found comfort and community in her relationship with God. Her later years reflected a desire for change and a deeper connection to faith.

Cherry dedicated 36 years of service as a Secretary for Social Services, demonstrating commitment, consistency, and strength throughout her career. In a powerful testament to her perseverance and determination, she returned to school in her 60s and earned her Associate Degree in Business Administration, an accomplishment that reflected her resilience and desire for personal growth.

Cherry was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Roberta Dickerson, and her siblings, Cedric Dickerson, Phyllis Lowe, Meredith James, and Enoch Dickerson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Anthony Dickerson, Andrew Dickerson, Maya (Gerald) Moore Davis, and Ashley Dickerson, grandchildren Jasmine Moore, ("Jazzy") Eugene Jeremiah Jackson ("Gene Gene") Mariah Stacker, Dominique Felton, and Lauryn Dickerson, sister, Pamela Dickerson; nieces, Kimberly Moore, Anne Fullilove(George), Elizabeth Lampley (Ronnie) Melinda Vincent (Gerald), nephews Keith Head, Martin Lowe, Alan Dickerson, and Reggie Barefield along with a host of other extended family and friends whom she dearly loved and carried in her heart.

Cherry's life was a journey marked by both challenges, silent struggles but also growth. She will be remembered not only for where she began, but for the steps she took toward change, and the strength to keep going.

Today, we take comfort in knowing that Cherry is now in her heavenly body, free from pain, at peace, and resting in the presence of the Lord.

"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." - 2 Corinthians 5:8
