Cheryl Kay (Vieregge) Johnson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on March 9, 2026, after a years-long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on November 1, 1948, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, William Kenneth Vieregge and Bernice June (Koep) Vieregge, first spouse Steven George Mitchell, and sisters, Mary Diane Vieregge, Marjorie Ann (Vieregge) Kirwin and Barbara Jean (Vieregge) Glowan.

She is lovingly survived by her husband Paul Leonard Johnson, daughter Heather Lynne (Johnson) Vincenty; son Joel Paul Johnson, sister Patricia Sue (Vieregge) Schlesinger, and brother Gregg William Vieregge. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Jonathan Pio Vincenty, William Otto Vincenty, and Lily Kim Johnson, who brought her immense joy.

Cheryl graduated from Wayzata High School, Wayzata, MN, where she graduated with honors. She attended Augsburg College, then began a career in fashion as a buyer for Braun's. In 1972 she married the love of her life, Paul Johnson, and celebrated 53 years of marriage before her passing. Their love was an inspiration to all. To her last day, they held hands and shared words of endearment.

Cheryl was the heart of the Vieregge family and proudly carried the role of family matriarch in recent years. She made sure every relative stayed connected—keeping everyone's contact information current, sending cards for holidays and special occasions, and celebrating every milestone and success with genuine enthusiasm. She was a constant source of encouragement, kindness, and positivity, brightening every room she entered.

Family was the center of Cheryl's life. She cherished not only her children and grandchildren but also her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, loving them as if they were her own. Her siblings were her closest friends, and she treasured the lifelong bond they shared.

Creativity and warmth filled everything Cheryl did. She lovingly sewed Halloween costumes, created customized Christmas stockings for every member of the family—including the pets—and enjoyed coloring, artwork, and sharing favorite crockpot recipes. She delighted in offering organizational tips, fashion advice, and beauty care recommendations, always looking stylish herself as the family's beloved "fashionista." Cheryl also enjoyed keeping up with celebrity news and had a special love for puppies.

Above all, Cheryl was a woman of deep and abiding faith. She faithfully served alongside her husband during his years in ministry, embracing the role of Pastor's wife with grace and dedication. Throughout her life she remained actively engaged in Bible studies and Christian fellowship, drawing strength and purpose from her faith.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Marietta, Georgia. In honor of Cheryl's vibrant spirit and joyful personality, guests are invited to wear bright, colorful attire.

Cheryl will be remembered for her loving heart, her radiant positivity, and the way she made every person feel seen, celebrated, and deeply loved. Her legacy of faith, family, and kindness will continue to live on in all who knew her.
