Chester Allen Stanton, affectionately known to all as "Doozie," passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Born on March 5, 1937, to the late Chester Leo and Glendora Eliza Stanton, Chester was a lifelong resident of Howard County, Maryland. Raised on Waterford Farm in Daisy, he graduated from Harriet Tubman High School in 1955.
A dedicated professional, Chester retired from the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) after 30 years of service at the Brighton Dam facility. Beyond his professional life, his heart belonged to his family and his faith. He shared 62 beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Rosele Smith Stanton.
Chester was a man of melody. A gifted tenor, he found great joy in gospel music, particularly the sounds of "Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers". In the early 1970s, he founded "The Gospel Travelers" at Daisy United Methodist Church, a group that shared the spirit of song across Maryland and D.C. for a decade.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rosele Smith Stanton; his daughters, Arlene Cunningham (Jonathon) and Linda Stanton; his daughter-in-law, Kimberly Stanton; his granddaughter, Danelle Jefferson (Earl); his grandson, Grant Allen Stanton; and was the proud great-grandfather to Latrell, Titan, Trevon, Sydney, Aminah, and Emory. He is also survived by a host of siblings-in-law and extended family who will forever miss his quick wit and infectious smile.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Allen Stanton.
Memorial service will be held at Mt. Gregory United Methodist Church, 2325 Washington Road (Route 97), Cookeville, MD 21723
