Christian John Henkel, 74, died unexpectedly on March 20, 2026, in Culebra, Puerto Rico. Born in Homestead, Florida, on February 14, 1952. Christian’s early days were spent in LaGrange, KY. He moved to Lexington to attend the University of Kentucky, where he graduated with a BA in Fine Arts.
It was in Lexington that Christian honed his carpentry skills and cultivated a deep concern for our community. Solving the world’s problems was Christian’s passion, as well as being a loving father, grandfather, and wonderful friend to many. He had a quick wit, a hearty laugh, the most distinct handwriting, and a generous spirit.
Christian was living his best life on his boat surrounded by his fellow yacht club members in Puerto Rico.
Christian is survived by his daughter, Leslie Martin, son-in-law, Ryan L. Martin, his grandchildren, Calder and Linden Martin, his brother, Dr. Terry Henkel, his Henkel cousins, and too many friends to count.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Eleanor Henkel, his siblings Stephen and Trina Henkel, and his former wife Karen Kane.
In honor of Henkel, a celebration of life will take place this summer.
