Christian A. Rivera, 54, of Pelham, New Hampshire, passed away with his family by his side after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Guatemala City on August 8, 1971, to Carlos and Laura, Christian moved to Boston at the age of six, where he experienced snow for the first time (Blizzard of '78!) and learned English. He earned his bachelor's degree from Boston University and his Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School.

Christian served as Senior Real Estate Counsel at Liberty Mutual Insurance, where he took great pride in his work. He was deeply valued by colleagues and clients alike and was recognized with numerous awards throughout his career. Earlier, he was an associate at Brown Rudnick and Goulston & Storrs in Boston, and he worked on several political campaigns across the Commonwealth.

As a young man, Christian was a proud corps member and team leader of City Year Boston and later served as a national expansion leader in Columbus, Ohio, which were experiences he described as transformational. His lifelong commitment to service included board roles at Bellesini Academy, Lawyers Clearinghouse, Neighborhood of Affordable Housing, and the City Year Boston Alumni Board; volunteering with Citizen Schools; helping run the East Boston Youth Network and providing counsel to countless pro bono clients.

Family was at the center of everything for Christian. He found deep joy in the simple, meaningful moments spent with those he loved, and his happiest days often blended family time with the things that delighted him most. A lifelong fan of Boston sports, an avid reader, and a seasoned traveler eager to sample whatever the local kitchen offered, Christian found joy in food that connected him to Guatemala, to family, and to his community. He was especially at peace near the water and cherished time spent on the Cape, in Isle of Palms, and at Lake Atitlán. In his final months, Christian continued to live with intention and gratitude, finding comfort and happiness in the routines he loved most: being surrounded by family, reading the sports page, and watching the Boston Celtics.

He is survived by the love of his life Mary Ellen, whom he met at The Good Life, and their three beautiful children, AnaSofia, Olivia, and Noah; his mother Laura Vega; his siblings, Linda Rivera; Laura Rivera-Davis (Jerome Davis); Victor Rivera (Esther Kee-Rivera); and Carlos Rivera; and his niece, Andreana Rivera-Thomas. A private funeral service will be held, with a celebration of life to follow. Christian will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Christian's memory to City Year, Brooks School, or a youth-serving organization of your choice. The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to the team on Shapiro 9 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for their extraordinary and loving care.
