Christie Canlas

1966 - 2025

Christie "Teresa" Canlas, born Christie Powell on August 24, 1966, in Plant City, Florida, passed away on November 15, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 59. Her life was a testament to unwavering faith, boundless compassion, and a deep commitment to serving others.

Christie's love for the Lord was the guiding light of her life. She lived each day with a heart full of prayer and purpose, striving to share the love of Christ with everyone she encountered. Her faith was not just something she believed—it was something she lived. Inspired by Matthew 25, Christie dedicated herself to serving "the least of these," embodying the scripture through her daily actions. She intentionally moved into a community with the express purpose of ministry and poured herself into that mission wholeheartedly. Through her presence and service, she helped people in that community find hope through Jesus Christ. Her legacy there will continue to ripple outward for generations.

Family was central to Christie's life. She is lovingly remembered by her son Nathan Bumgarner and his wife Cassandra; her daughter Tiffany Dages and her husband Todd; and her grandchildren Cuyler, Ben, Caleb, and Ava. She also leaves behind her devoted mother and stepfather Rita and Tom Bass; her sister Kerry Shepherd and husband Jalen; her stepbrother Tommy Bass and wife Nicole; and stepsister Kelly Lancaster and husband Doug; along with many other aunts, uncles, and cousins who love her dearly.

Christie was preceded in death by her father Rapo, with whom she is now joyfully reunited in Heaven.

Those who knew Christie knew they were being prayed for. She made it a point to stay connected with loved ones near and far—offering encouragement, support, or simply a listening ear whenever it was needed. Her generosity knew no bounds; she gave freely of herself so that others would feel seen, valued, and loved.

Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of many—but also an enduring example of how one life lived in faith can uplift an entire community.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and may her legacy continue to inspire acts of kindness rooted in love.
