Christina Joan Thomas-Fraser passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on January 13, 2024, in Encinitas, CA, at the age of 83, six weeks after her diagnosis with inoperable Cancer.
Christina was born Patsy Joan King on July 12, 1940, in Alamo, TN, to Bonnie (Hardin) King and J.C. King. She lived a life marked by curiosity, independence, and a lifelong search for meaning. Over the years, she made her home in many places, including Chicago, IL, Memphis, TN, Jacksonville, FL, and Encinitas, CA, and spent extended time in Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, and near Charlottesville, VA. Each place left its imprint on her and helped her to fulfill what she believed to be her life’s purpose.
She embraced many professional paths throughout her life, reflecting her intelligence, adaptability, and wide-ranging interests. Christina worked as a flight attendant for American Airlines, an interior decorator, a real estate agent, and a psychotherapist / self-help workshop instructor. She was also an author, self-publishing three books—Secrets, In Tune With the Soul, and Change Your Patterns, Change Your Life—through which she explored themes of self-awareness, spiritual growth, and personal transformation.
A devoted spiritual seeker, Christina had been a member of the Self-Realization Fellowship since the early 1970s, a commitment that deeply shaped her worldview, guided her inner life, and originally drew her to Encinitas, where she spent the majority of her life.
Christina was preceded in death by her deeply beloved husband, Campbell (Cam) Fraser; her former husband, William Thomas (the father of her daughter); her parents, Bonnie and J.C. King, and her brother-in-law, John (Johnny) Middleton. The loss of Cam in 2017 profoundly affected Christina, and her heart never fully healed after his passing.
Christina is survived by her only daughter, Julie (Thomas) Ullery; her son-in-law, Quintin Ullery; and her beloved grandchildren, Owen and Molly Ullery, all of San Diego, California, her younger sister, Bonita (Cindy) Middleton and younger brother, Anthony (Tony) King, nephew Michael Middleton, and niece Kelly (Middleton) Wilson, all of the Memphis, TN metropolitan area, and several cousins from both the King and Hardin sides of her family.
Christina’s two grandchildren were her greatest joy and deepest pride, and she cherished every moment she was able to spend with them.
In accordance with Christina’s wishes, her ashes were scattered primarily off the coast of Swami’s Beach in Encinitas, California, with a small portion released off the coast of Vancouver, British Columbia—two places that held special personal meaning to her.
Christina will be remembered for her ever-searching spirit, her resilience, her devotion to inner growth, and the love she held for her family. Her journey was uniquely her own, and she leaves behind a legacy of exploration, reflection, and enduring connection. Her soul will live on in perpetuity.
