Christine Dawson

Christine Dawson "Chris" age 94 of Gary,In passed away January 5,2026.She was born September 13th, 1931 in Camden Mississippi, to the late William McKinley & Maggie Washington. She was educated in the Madison County school system. Sometime later, she secured employment at S.S. Kresge's, in the well-known Village Shopping Center. Subsequent employment opportunities in Gary were experienced at the Gary Community School Corporation as a lunch room matron, and later with Republic-LTV Steel as a Material Handler who was responsible for the weighing and banding of steel product such as bars and/or coils, She remained an employee there for 30 plus years until retirement.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion MB Church. While living in Gary, Chris was a member of New Friendship M.B. Church for many years, and served in various roles during her membership.
She was preceded in death by Alton Dawson, her husband of 45 years, her son Kenneth; Sisters: Earline, Annie Mae, and Louise; Brothers: Wilson, Mack, Joe Willie, Cleophus, George T., Henry C., and A,B. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter Vanessa (Darryl) Ryan, her son Terry, daughter/niece Carolyn (K.K.) George; two grandsons: Tristan Dawson, Jayden Ryan; Sister-in-law: Jossie M. Washington, Bernice Ward; God daughter Cynthia Johnson and many numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
