Christine Marie Barnes died peacefully at home on January 13, 2026, in Boise, Idaho.
Chris is survived by her wife, Marla Holmes; her mother, Kathleen Hamilton; and her mother's husband, Ross Hamilton, affectionately known as Papa. She is also survived by her half-brother, Mark Farrell; two step-brothers; her uncle, Jim Haney; her aunts, Jan Haney and Marge Forum; her cousins; and many dear friends and neighbors.
Chris earned a bachelor's degree from Boise State University and spent much of her life traveling the world as an international jet pilot. She was never content to stay still for long. She loved hiking, backpacking, skiing, cycling, backcountry flying, and exploring the mountains in her beloved camper van. Whether on foot, on skis, or in the air, she was happiest outdoors, moving freely through wild places with enthusiasm and humor.
Always adventurous and deeply alive, Chris packed an extraordinary amount of living into her sixty years. She valued her friendships most of all and leaves behind a wide circle of people whose lives were richer for having known her.
An outdoor celebration of life will be held when the weather warms. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Idaho Trails Association or the Sawtooth Society.
