Christine Hunter Messersmith, 82, of Summerfield, Florida, passed away peacefully at home under hospice care on January 9, 2026.

Christine was born on January 16, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Thomas Winfield Hunter and Esther Griffiths Hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Thomas Winfield Hunter, Jr.; and her beloved son, Ryan Jay Messersmith.

She is survived by her devoted husband of more than sixty years, Robert Paul Messersmith; her son, Robert "Paul" Messersmith, Jr., and his wife, Candy; and her cherished grandchildren, Ruby, Robbie, and Liam.

Christine earned her bachelor's degree in business from Indiana University and went on to excel professionally as an executive administrator, working in both Indiana and Georgia while raising her young family. She was admired for her strong work ethic, organizational skills, and dedication in every role she undertook.

As the wife of a United States Air Force serviceman, Christine was a steadfast and supportive military spouse, meeting the challenges of military life with grace, patience, and strength. She was actively involved in the Officers' Wives Club, where she offered friendship, leadership, and support to fellow military families throughout their assignments.

A faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church, Christine's life was deeply rooted in her faith and service to others. She found great joy in singing in the church choir and in teaching children's summer Bible school, where her kindness and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on many young lives.

Christine was deeply committed to charitable work. Most recently, she dedicated her time to supporting local food pantries by delivering meals to homebound individuals. She also lovingly delivered flowers following Sunday services to congregation members who were ill or unable to attend, reflecting her quiet compassion and care for others.

Christine enjoyed many pastimes and hobbies throughout her life. Her needlepoint, crafts, and decorations remain tangible reminders of her encouragement, creativity, and hope. Her competitive spirit and good nature were always present—whether playing family games, fishing, or enjoying sporting events. An avid golfer, Christine was a member of the Eagle Ridge Ladies Golf Association and especially cherished time on the course shared with friends and family.

Christine will be remembered for her generosity, quiet strength, unwavering devotion to her family, and a life marked by faith and service. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
