Christopher E. “Chris” Kenworthy
January 21, 1972 - December 4, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Christopher, who left us on December 4, 2025, at the age of 53. He passed peacefully at Central Vermont Medical Center, held in the loving presence of his mother, daughter and sister, after a period of declining health.
Born on January 21, 1972 in Marlborough, Massachusetts, Christopher was the cherished son of Marcia E. (née Clark) and H. James Kenworthy.
Chris spent his childhood in Montpelier and attended Montpelier High School. He also lived briefly in Portsmouth, Virginia as a child before returning to Vermont, eventually settling in Barre Town for much of his adult life.
Chris loved with his whole heart—and also protected his heart fiercely. Beneath a sometimes tough exterior was a tender, sensitive soul who felt life deeply. He taught those around him how to live with conviction and compassion. From him, they learned generosity without hesitation, the value of hard work and the confidence to know their own worth.
His strong bond and love for his children, Taylor and Lars, was immeasurable; to call him a loving and proud father would be an understatement. Their mother, Kristin Newton, predeceased him in 2019 after 26 years of love and devotion to one another.
Chris carved out a career in the trades as a professional carpet installer, mastering a physically demanding craft and earning a reputation for meticulous workmanship. Hard work came naturally to him—he embraced it, excelled at it and took pride in every job he completed.
Chris not only worked hard—he played hard. His fun-loving nature led to countless laughs, adventures and stories that his family and friends will cherish forever.
Chris was a true metalhead with a deep love of music. If Metallica is the first band you associate with him, then you knew him well. You also likely know he was a talented, self-taught drummer whose passion for rhythm matched the intensity with which he lived his life.
Chris is survived by his mother, Marcia; his daughter, Taylor (Zach) Anderson, and his son, Lars M. Kenworthy, all of Barre. He also leaves his sister, Kathleen (Mark) Audy of Barre Town; his brothers, Brian (Juanita) Kenworthy of Hawaii and Jonathan (Jess) Peach of San Diego; and his “brother from another mother,” Mike Kearney, of East Barre.
He is lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Grace (Alex) Gabaree, Joshua, Erica, Ashley and Emmaline Audy; Nathan Minister, and Nora and Ella Peach.
Chris is also survived by his maternal aunts, Lanie Tomlinson, Beverly Blais and Suzanne Clark; his maternal uncle, Craig Clark; his paternal aunts Susan (Jeff) Ronnquist, Carol Wilson and Barbara Kenworthy; his paternal uncle, Herbie Kenworthy; and by a special cousin, Michelle Rochette of Maryland, along with many additional cousins on both sides of his family.
In addition to Kristin, Chris has rejoined many loved ones who predeceased him. These include his father, Jim Kenworthy; his stepfather, Marc Peach; his maternal grandparents, Harry and Thelma (Thurston) Clark; his paternal grandparents, Herbert and Joan (Murphy) Kenworthy; and Doug Bock.
He is also reunited with his special aunt, Susan (Clark) King; his maternal aunt, Sandra Hood; and his maternal uncles, Harry “Junie” Clark, Alan Clark, Ronnie Knapp, Simeon “Pete” Blais, Gene Tomlinson and Moe King. On his paternal side, he is predeceased by his uncle, Robert Scott Kenworthy.
To know Chris was to know a man of depth, humor, grit and heart. His memory will live on in all of us he leaves behind.
A celebration of Chris’s life is planned on January 24, 2026 at The East Barre VFW Post 790 at 1pm.
