Christopher Michael Slaughter, born February 17, 1978 in Ames, IA, passed away on February 2, 2026 in Kingwood, TX. Chris earned a BS in finance and economics and a MS in economics from Baylor University. He became known for finding innovative, efficient ways to solve economic problems that his professors asked to teach. He won a tri-state business award for a computer program he developed after working only 3 months at Bank One. Chris worked in the energy sector in Houston, including for 20 years at Reliant Resources/NRG, where he managed a team of talented people.

At Macgregor Elementary School, Chris' proficiency in 5 word-processing programs, each with different commands, enabled him to help teachers. He ran 5 miles at third grade recess and played every YMCA sport. He completed two Space Camp programs, where Buzz Aldren spent an hour talking with him. Chris loved Mr. Henly's debate class at Lanier Middle School Gifted and Talented Program. He enjoyed Boy Scouts, sponsored by Richmond Plaza Baptist Church, led by Virgil Swenson, Charlie Scruggs and David Harrison. He loved camping, became an Eagle Scout and became president of the RPBC youth group.

Chris started a candy business when he was 8, soon hiring 3 helpers. At 13, he pushed the lawn mower to 5 yards in Bellaire. He completed the MS-150 bike ride at 16 and rode 150 miles at 17. He worked as a counselor, then supervisor, for Bellaire Parks and Recreation summer day camps.

His children, Samantha and Noah, were born in Kingwood, TX. Sam developed two rare, dangerous autoimmune diseases, beginning when she was 6. Chris became a resource for parents of sick children in the US and globally. His book Abide In Me; A Daughter's Illness, A Father's Struggle and a Reminder that the Miraculous Isn't Just a Thing of the Past was written before Sam's complete, statistically impossible recovery. It was featured on KSBJ, by Barnes and Noble, Amazon and Walmart and provided funds for Dr. Muscal's autoencephalitis research at Texas Children's Hospital. Chris encouraged his kids' interests in swim team, gymnastics and running. He ran half marathons, obstacle courses and Tough Mudders. Chris taught Bible study, helped lead exercise/devotionals and an expansion campaign for Kingwood United Methodist Church. In 2022, he developed life-threatening, unstable diabetes.

Chris is survived by his children, Samantha and Noah, attending Baylor University; his parents Gayle and Mike Slaughter of Kingwood, TX; his cousins Shane Slaughter of Pollock, LA and Dustin Kimball of Falls Church, VA; his aunts and uncles LT COL Charlie Hudson and COL Hugh Hudson of Homestead, FL Lynne and Bill Larsen-Ruffin of Mandeville, LA, Loretta and Russell Slaughter and Maria and Darrell Slaughter of Pollock, LA.
