Charles Raymond Moir III, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on February 10, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Charles was born on May 10, 1945, in Roanoke, Virginia, to the late Charles R. Moir, Jr. and Anna Jenkins Winn. He graduated from Cave Spring High School, where he excelled in football and basketball and later attended Virginia Military Institute, graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Following graduation, he was commissioned in the United States Air Force.

During his ten years in the United States Air Force, Charles served his country with honor and distinction. He was stationed in Pleiku, Vietnam, where he served as Airfield Supervisor and managed the evacuation of Cambodian refugees during the Tet Offensive. For his leadership and service, he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster. After returning from Vietnam, he was assigned to Minot Air Force Base, where he served as an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Instructor.

Following his military service, Charles built a distinguished career in business. He joined Xerox Corporation as a sales representative and was later promoted to Tidewater Sales Manager, overseeing military installations. In 1985, he joined Contel Cellular, becoming a pioneer in the development of mobile cellular service in the Hampton Roads area. He went on to lead the third largest market in the nation at Comcast Cellular One. Throughout his career in telecommunications, Charles received numerous accolades for his leadership, performance, and innovation. After retiring from the corporate world and relocating to Florida, Charles became a Great Clips franchise owner, where he thrived as an entrepreneur and mentor, guiding young stylists into management roles.

A devoted Christian, Charles openly shared his faith in Jesus Christ, and his faith guided his life, relationships, and leadership. He participated in mission trips to Russia and volunteered his time in various roles within his church. At the time of his passing, Charles was a member of Life Church in Fort Myers, Florida.

A sports enthusiast throughout his life, Charles enjoyed both athletic competition and recreational games. He played football, basketball, racquetball, tennis, and golf, and was a loyal fan of the Boston Celtics, the New York Yankees, the Washington Commanders, and NASCAR. He also enjoyed playing backgammon and pool.

Music was a defining part of his life. His favorite band was The Rolling Stones. From his early years through the end of his life, their music remained a constant presence. He attended their concerts whenever they toured, admiring their ability to span rock, country, and blues. Their music marked the seasons of his life and brought him lasting joy.

In addition to his love of sports and music, Charles also had a lifelong appreciation for cars and Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Josie Ahlin; his daughters, Alison Moir and Jennifer (Jeff) Griffiths; his stepson, Austin Ahlin; his grandson, Charlie Griffiths; and his special cousin, Anna Helmer.

Honoring Charles’ wishes, there will be a private burial service at Sarasota National Cemetery in the spring.
