Cynthia ("Cindy") Ann Mokry, née Flores, went home to the Lord on Good Friday, April 3rd, 2026. She passed away peacefully, with her son, Brian, by her side, at St. Patrick's Residence, in Naperville, IL. Cindy was 80 years' old, and the cause of death was complications from dementia.
Cindy was born on July 26th, 1945, in Chicago, to her loving parents, Nelly R. Flores and Fred R. Flores, who predeceased her, as did her loving aunt, Manuela Rivas Fortunat ("Titi"), who lived with the family and cared for the children, while Nelly and Fred worked. Cindy's sister and only sibling, Diana E. Harris, survives.
Growing up on the South Side of Chicago, Cindy graduated from Our Lady of Peace grammar school and from Aquinas Dominican High School. After high school, Cindy married the late Fred Mokry, and they had one child, Brian S. Mokry, who survives.
After high school, Cindy attended beauty school and became a licensed beautician. When Brian was born, Cindy devoted herself to being a full-time mom. Upon re-entering the work force, Cindy took non-traditional jobs for women, such as operating a forklift in a warehouse, picking pallets. She later worked as a limousine driver, throughout the Chicago area, until she retired.
Cindy was a free spirit who danced to the beat of her own drum. She drove a red pick-up truck and loved to take long-distance solo driving trips. Cindy especially enjoyed visiting the national parks and monuments out West. She also loved animals, especially dogs, and always had a treat for them.
In addition to her son, Brian, Cindy is also survived by four nieces, with whom she had an affectionate and loving relationship: Diana ("Dee Dee") C. Durham, Faith M. Durham, Hope T. Stoetzer and Debbie A. Reau. Cindy's nephew, Daniel W. Durham, predeceased her. Several great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
Cindy resided at St. Patrick's Residence, for the past couple of years, and, she received hospice care for the last few months of her life. Cindy was grateful for the compassionate care provided by both St. Pat's and by the hospice team from Vitas Healthcare. Cindy's family is grateful to both, as well.
In accordance with Cindy's wishes, her body is being donated for medical research. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lamplight Donor Services, LLC. Cindy's family will celebrate her life privately.
