Cipriano Castillo, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, educator, and proud Marine, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, at the age of 92.

He was born on September 9, 1933, in Los Chavez, New Mexico, to Amalia Chavez and Cipriano Castillo, Sr. Cipriano grew up on a farm, where he developed a lifelong love for animals and learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and humility that guided him throughout his life. One of his simple joys was playing the harmonica, a talent that brought music and comfort to those around him.

Cipriano honorably served his country for 22 years in the United States Marine Corps, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military career reflected his deep sense of duty, discipline, and patriotism. Following his service, he devoted his life to education, serving as a teacher and later retiring as an elementary school principal. His dedication left a lasting impact on countless students, families, and colleagues.

He was married to the love of his life, Estella Garcia Castillo, for 70 years. Together, they built a strong and loving family. He is survived by his wife Estella; his children Diane, Lori, Virginia, Albert, and Joe; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a constant source of pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Alan, his sister Lucia, and his brother Ruben. He is also survived by his siblings, Del and Ode.

Cipriano will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering integrity, love of family, dedication to service, and the gentle music of his harmonica. His legacy of faith, leadership, and love will continue through the many lives he touched.

A rosary will take place Monday, February 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m., at St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
