February 16, 1924 - November 11, 2025
Claire Stewart Moscrip, 101, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, at the Whatcom Hospice House in Bellingham, Washington, surrounded by family.
Born in Kennydale, Washington, Claire was the daughter of Frank and Antoinette (Nowakowski)Stewart. A gifted scholar, she graduated from Franklin High School and went on to earn advanced degrees in languages and linguistics from the University of Washington, UC San Diego, and the University of Guadalajara. She was a proud member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Claire devoted her career to education, teaching junior and senior high foreign languages and later serving as a guidance counselor. Her love of language, learning, and her students made a lasting impact on generations of young people.
Claire was first married to Arthur Marion Weatherford Jr., who predeceased her. Together they raised three children. She later married George Moscrip, with whom she shared many happy years.
After retiring early, Claire embraced her passions for golf and world travel, visiting Mexico, Europe, Asia, Japan, Russia, and Thailand. She was known for her joyful spirit, her curiosity, and her ability to make friends wherever she went. To family and friends she was Claire, Mickey, Mom, Grammie, Great Great, Aunt, Auntie, and cousin—titles she wore with pride and love.
A dedicated friend, Claire cherished relationships throughout her life. For many years, she joined former classmates in celebrating their beloved first-grade teacher, Miss Muzzie, taking her to lunch on her birthday well into Claire's 90s.
Claire is survived by her children Arthur Weatherford (Naomi) and Marla Bolles; her beloved son-in-law, Noel Kidd; grandchildren Paul Kidd, Jeff Kidd (Nina), Jeremiah Weatherford (Bonnie), Matthew Weatherford (Ashley), Jaime Williams (Brandon), Charri Albrecht (Corey), Kurstin Taylor (DaWayne), Douglas Bolles (Danelle), and Daniel Bolles; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George, daughter Cheryl Kidd, and twelve siblings.
Her family honors her long life, her kindness, and the joy she brought to every room. Claire's legacy of curiosity, laughter, and love will continue in all who knew her.
A private graveside service will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial. Donations may be made in her name to the Whatcom Hospice
