Claudia Carr Taylor, 87, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, in Tyrone, Georgia. Born on July 4, 1938, Claudia lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service.
A devoted member of New Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, Claudia's life was a testament to her deep spiritual beliefs and unwavering dedication to others. She earned an associate degree from Purdue University Calumet and went on to serve the Gary, Indiana, community as a cosmetologist for over 53 years. Through her craft, she not only enhanced outer beauty but also uplifted the spirits of those she served with kindness and care. Claudia cherished her family deeply.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Veronica (Joseph) Walker of Tyrone, GA, and Andrea (Alfred) Hammonds of Williamsville, NY; her grandchildren Amber, Daniel, and Alexandrea Hammonds and Janae' Walker; her brother Wilton (Ella) Carr of Gary, IN; sisters Gracie Greene of Tyrone, GA and Emma (James) Barefield of Los Alamos, NM; aunt Dorothy Davis of Bessemer, AL; sisters-in-law Essie Carr of Montgomery, AL and Violet Carr of Chicago, IL; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Waymon and Parlee Carr, and brothers Witherspoon Carr, Ezekiel (Gloria) Carr, and RT Bryant Carr.
Claudia found joy in traveling, cooking for loved ones, and taking long walks that reflected her appreciation for life's simple blessings. Her warmth touched many hearts and left lasting impressions on all who knew her.
A memorial service celebrating Claudia's life was held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA.
