The Honorable Clausen Joseph Krzywicki died on December 12, 2025 at the Fairfax INOVA Medical Center in Fairfax, VA. He was surrounded by his sons, his brothers, his wife and many loving family members.

Clausen was born on November 2, 1954, in Pennsylvania, the firstborn son of Sarah Faith Van Sise and Anthony A. Krzywicki. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA in 1976 and his Juris Doctor Degree from George Mason University School of Law in 1987.

Clausen became a Federal Administrative Appeals Judge for the Medicare Appeals Council within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Judge Krzywicki was a highly respected member of the Medicare Appeals Council and one of its most experienced members.

Clausen was passionate about music. He spent many hours listening to music and attending concerts. He was an active member of the DC Hi-Fi Group, an audio enthusiast group. Clausen was justly proud of his 4 home stereo systems, each fine-tuned to hear music in its purest form. He enjoyed participating in the annual Capital Audiofest Washington DC HiFi Audio Show (CAF), one of the East Coast's premier high-end electronics and vinyl shows.

An avid rug collector, Clausen viewed rugs as fine art rather than mere floor coverings. He sought out unique handwoven rugs for their artistic, historical and cultural significance. Within his home, he created a beautiful personal museum of textile art.

Clausen was a passionate car enthusiast who saw cars as much more than just transport. He loved talking cars, driving cars, and attending car events. To Clausen, cars deserved to be appreciated as a separate art form, a place where beauty met form, function, and most of all, fun.

Clausen actively sought out novel culinary experiences, viewing food as a hobby and passion rather than just sustenance. He enjoyed exploring different restaurants and cuisines. He was an accomplished cook in his own right who sourced the best components, understood flavor profiles, and served delicious and beautifully presented dishes at home.

Throughout his life, Clausen formed strong relationships with people. If you met him, you could not ignore him. He was brilliant, funny, thoughtful, warm and sometimes outrageous. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was a beloved father, brother, husband, and uncle. He was a particularly devoted grandfather to his grandsons Jackson, Samuel and Thomas.

A self-proclaimed "Force of Nature," Clausen was loved by many and will never be forgotten.

He was predeceased by his wife Rebecca in 2018. He is survived by his son Michael Krzywicki, his son Bryan Krzywicki (Lorin), brother Bob Krzywicki (Sally), brother Van Krzywicki (Rebecca), 3 grandsons, and his wife and companion Julie Kehrli.
