Clelia Walker
Clelia Anne Walker was born on December 30, 1951 in Fort Belvoir, MD to Wilber W. Hoare, Jr. and Elizabeth Hervig Hoare. She grew up in Arlington, VA, and graduated from Washington-Lee High School in 1969. She attended Wells College in Aurora, NY, then transferred to and graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, where she worked for several years. In 1984, she moved back to Arlington, and began a long career in the Federal Government, first in the office of Personnel Management, and later at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, where she enjoyed a busy and successful career as a contracting officer until her retirement in 2018.
Clelia found solace and joy in her Christian faith. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington for thirty years, served as a deacon for the congregation, and attended the Wednesday bible study group regularly.
Animal welfare was another of Clelia's passions. She raised a number of rescue cats and generously supported animal rescue organizations, especially the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington, D.C.
Clelia loved golfing, travel, and fine food and wine. Her work often took her across the U.S., and she traveled to New Orleans, New York and London with family. She enjoyed going out to restaurants and eating vegetarian cuisine from all over the globe.
Clelia is survived by her three sisters, Elizabeth J. Hoare, Alexis H. Wierzbicki, and Stephanie A.H. Divo, her two nieces, Jane C.W. Hansen and Kaye C. Wierzbicki, and two cats, Mimi and Paco.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington, Virginia, 601 N. Vermont Street, on Saturday, November 8, at 1:00 p.m. Donations to the Humane Rescue Alliance of Washington, D.C., in honor of Clelia's memory, are welcome.
