Clifford Perry Peterson, 85, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, in Antioch, California. Born on November 24, 1940, in Santa Maria, California, Clifford lived a full and vibrant life marked by hard work, humor, and a deep love for family and community.
A skilled bricklayer by trade, Clifford dedicated much of his life to building not just structures but also lasting impressions through his craftsmanship. He worked on high-rises in San Francisco and was known for his fearlessness when it came to heights. Among his many accomplishments was the intricate glass block work he completed for the Antioch Police Department—just one example of the beautiful and enduring work he left behind. Even beyond his formal projects, Clifford took pride in numerous side jobs that showcased his talent and dedication. He continued working until the age of 69, a testament to both his strong work ethic and passion for his craft.
Clifford was a man of great character—brutally honest yet deeply compassionate. His sense of humor was infectious, and he had a special place in his heart for children. Regardless of race or background, Clifford delighted in making little ones laugh and dance. Whether in a store or at a gathering, if a child was crying, Clifford would scoop them up and dance around until their tears turned into giggles. One mother once marveled that her child—who never let anyone else hold him—was laughing joyfully in Clifford’s arms.
He loved to fish and travel, often joking that he should have been born with wheels on his butt. His adventurous spirit took him far and wide, but he always returned home with stories to tell and laughter to share.
Clifford was of Catholic faith and carried those values with him throughout his life.
He leaves behind three adult children: Clifford Jr. and his wife Marie of Lathrop; Cindy Peterson of San Mateo; and Robin Peterson of Antioch. He also leaves seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of love and laughter.
Clifford is also survived by his brother Charles Peterson of Windsor, California; half-brothers Alan Guggia, Gary Guggia, Johnny Guggia; and half-sister Georgeanna Domengas—all of Santa Maria.
He was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter Christina Peterson; his oldest brother Harold Peterson who passed away earlier this year; and another brother David Peterson who passed several years ago.
Clifford’s life was one filled with purpose, joy, honesty, and an unwavering commitment to those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
