Send Flowers Plant A Tree
We are heartbroken to share the loss of our beloved son, little brother, grandson, and his favorite title of all— Uncle Colby. Colby passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 14, 2025.

It may sound cliché to say that Colby lit up the room, but he truly did. His infectious, larger-than-life smile, quick one-liner jokes, and ability to find joy in even the simplest moments made him impossible not to love. More than anything, Colby loved being an uncle to Jaxon and Josie. He was happiest surrounded by family- listening to music, relaxing, and devouring his mom’s baking, especially her cookies. In his free time, he was a cannabis enthusiast - a connoisseur of sorts, who loved writing and making music, and was always down for a bit of karaoke.

With his nephew Jaxon, Colby loved playing video games—especially Minecraft. He could spend hours helping Jax build worlds and sharing their silly jokes. With his niece Josie, he was the world’s biggest pushover; if it was Frozen-themed, she got it. Spoiling both kids with his time, attention, and love was one of his life’s greatest joys.

With his parents, Ryan and Jamie, Colby shared his “foodie” spirit. He was forever sending his mom new recipes to make, eager to try whatever she created next. He loved firing up the grill with his dad, turning simple meals into memories. No matter the day, there was always a homemade dish on the counter and a table set for the family to gather around.

Colby also recently picked up playing shuffleboard with his Willits family—and to no one’s surprise, he was a natural. A slice of pizza, a pint, and an evening full of laughter was often how he spent a Sunday night. He loved hard—his friends, his family, and yes, his hats (worn both backwards and frontwards). Colby was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back or his last dollar without a second thought.

Even as life took most of his family away from Ferndale— whether across the world or across the state, Colby remained the one constant. He was our anchor, always ready to welcome us back home when we needed it most. He taught us more about laughter and loving life in his 24 years than most people learn in a lifetime.

Colby was adored and surrounded in life by his mom and dad, Jamie and Ryan Cox; his sisters Emily Molina (and her wife, Sofia), Abigail Cox (and her fiancé, Cody), and Madelynn Cox; his nephew Jaxon and niece Josie; his grandparents Doris and Robert Echeveria; his Cox cousins, uncles, and aunts; and friends from both Ferndale and Willits. He was preceded in death by his Nana Margaret Gilrane; grandfather Joey Molina; grandfather David Cox; and his beloved dachshund, Bella.

A celebration of life will be held after the holidays to honor Colby in the way he would have wanted. Details will be shared at a later date. A GoFundMe under Colby Cox: https://gofund.me/436fe4485 has been set up to help cover some of the expenses resulting from the sudden and unexpected nature of his passing.
