Connie Lee Johnson "Gabby", age 77, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. He was born on December 1, 1947, in Gary, Indiana to Frank and Luella Johnson. Gabby graduated from Roosevelt High School. He resided in Oakland, California for over 40 years until his recent move back home to Gary in 2021. He worked several jobs in construction, driving trucks, and even as a cook. Gabby was known by everyone for his witty humor, brutal honesty, and love for God and his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, bingo, going out to eat with loved ones, and watching old western movies. Even though he was faced with numerous health challenges in recent years, he persevered through each one and trusted God for strength to overcome. Gabby was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Luella Johnson; three wives Sandra Johnson, Michelle Johnson, and Rhonda Johnson; seven siblings, Celestine Edwards, Frank Johnson, Shelton Johnson, Joyce Laws, Delores Smith, Willa Smith, and William Johnson. He is survived by two sons, Gregory Johnson and Brandon (Michelle) Johnson; his special friend and companion, Emma Winningham; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gabby will be greatly missed but the precious memories of his love, humor, and compassion will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Visitation, Friday, December 5, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. All services at the Guy and Allen Chapel, 2959 W. 11th Avenue Gary, Indiana 46404. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park in Hobart, Indiana.
