Constance Garrett, lovingly known as "Connie," was born on October 27, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas, and passed away on January 18, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald Charles Garrett and Mary Helen Ewell-Papin, as well as her brother Gerald Garrett.
Connie was an ordained minister whose faith guided her life and work. She was a devoted member of First AME Zion Church in Los Angeles, where she worshiped, served, and ministered to others with compassion and conviction.
Connie dedicated many years to public service with the County Sheriff's Office, where she served as a Senior Typist Clerk before retiring.
Retirement opened a new chapter in Connie's life. She proudly earned her Associate of Arts (AA) degree from Cerritos College. She also pursued and earned certifications as a Guidance Counselor, Mental Health Counselor, Youth Counselor, and Substance Abuse Counselor. In addition, she continued her work as a Nutrition Counselor, blending education, wellness, and spirituality to support and uplift those she served. She was also the author of Icing on My Life's Cake, a reflection of her life experiences.
A fifth-generation professional chef and cook, Connie was the Owner and Operator of The Positive Charge Juice Bar and Health Food Deli in the South Bay area of California. Through her work, she shared her belief that true healing begins from within—mind, body, and spirit.
Above all, Connie was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her five children, including Zakee M. IdDeen, Fumiko (Lenah) Johns, Za Winton, Lowell Mabson, and Daniel Mabson. She proudly shared that she had 19 grandchildren, with that number continuing to grow.
She is also survived by her siblings, Keith Garrett, Peggy Garrett, Brenda (Joiner) Fleming, Lisa (Garrett) Nevels, Gina Joiner, and Marcus Garrett, along with a host of extended family members and dear friends who will deeply miss her wisdom, strength, compassion, and unwavering spirit.
