Cooper Robert Buch

2005 - 2026

Cooper Robert Buch, 20, of Austin, Texas, was born October 21, 2005, and died January 25, 2026. He was a beloved son, brother, family member, and friend whose intelligence, curiosity, and quiet determination left a lasting impression on those who knew him. Thoughtful and self-directed, he was most at ease when he had something to work on.

When other children came home from the thrift store with toys, Cooper would return with motors and parts to build devices such as homemade hoverboards, boats, and bicycles he and his friends in the neighborhood would enjoy. At age fifteen, Cooper developed a Roblox component and marketed it himself online, earning significant royalties that summer, reflecting his entrepreneurial spirit.

Cooper graduated from Austin High School in Austin, Texas, in 2024 and was a sophomore at Arizona State University, where he was studying software engineering and had earned Dean’s List honors. He pursued software projects in addition to his coursework, with an interest in applied artificial intelligence.

Beyond his academic interests, Cooper was fond of the outdoors. He enjoyed skiing, camping, boating, and other outdoor activities. On sailing vacations, Cooper took pride in serving as the dinghy captain, happily shuttling everyone to and from shore.

Cooper enjoyed traveling with his family. He loved his time at the beach, particularly in Seaside, Florida. His favorite foreign country was Norway, where he enjoyed visiting with his Norwegian extended family. Cooper talked about attending graduate school in Oslo and was learning Norwegian on his own initiative.

Cooper loved all animals and was never without a pet. His pet cockatiel, Kiwi, was a steady companion, often riding on his shoulder to and from the trips to college. Any time he found an injured animal he was always quick to rush it to the Austin Wildlife Rescue.

Above all, Cooper was deeply loved. He will be remembered for his gentle presence and the promise of all that he was becoming. His life, though far too short, mattered profoundly, and his memory will remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

Cooper is survived by his father, Ivar Philip Buch; his mother, Kathleen A. Buch; his brother, Jackson I. Buch; his sister, Charlotte S. Buch; his grandfather, Robert K. Miller; his grandmother, Loraine L. Miller; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ivar Buch; his grandmother, Frieda L. Buch; and his aunt, Carol A. Buch.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Cooper’s memory to consider donating to the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation at https://bbrfoundation.donordrive.com/campaigns/Cooper-Robert-Buch/donate
