Craig Leon Wentz, 62, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025 in Denver, CO.
Craig was born September 6, 1963 in Mountain View, CA, and grew up in Menlo Park, CA where his love of sports, people, and storytelling first took shape. He attended Menlo Atherton HS and graduated from Palo Alto HS in 1981. He then went on and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1986 with a degree in Communication and became a lifelong, loyal Vols fan.
Craig grew up playing sports and enjoyed baseball, football, and rugby throughout high school and college and golf in his later years.
Craig spent 25 years in sports media, working across radio, television, newspapers, and play-by-play announcing. He later devoted eight years to the golf industry, serving at Shoreline, Sharon Heights, and Canyon Oaks in Chico. His most meaningful role came at Arbor Acute in Chico, where he worked in hospitality assisting individuals with dementia and those in short-term rehabilitation. His compassion, patience, and sincerity made a profound impact on the people he served.
He loved golf, meeting new people, and taking quiet, reflective walks. He was history buff at heart with a sharp mind for politics and sports. Craig was always one that could strike up a conversation with anyone, everywhere he went.
Among his many accomplishments, Craig was most proud of two things: celebrating 31 years of sobriety and reading the Bible in a single year. His faith guided him deeply, and he lived each day with gratitude and purpose.
Craig's warmth, wit, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew him. His legacy is one of resilience, faith, kindness, and an open heart. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
Craig was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanie and his father, Leon. He is survived by his brother Brad (Darci), his sister Julie, his beloved niece and nephews, Taylor (Collin), Zack, and Ryan and his stepmom Cathy. He cherished each of them and carried their love with him always.
The family plans to hold a private service. If you knew Craig and would like to share a story or two, the family would like you to join them on Monday, December 29 at 1pm at the Dutch Goose in Menlo Park. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Craig's name can be made to your charity of choice.
