Cynthia "Cyndi" Lou Lyons (Hayden), 62, passed away on April 9, 2026, in Waterloo, Iowa, at Covenant Medical Center sounded by family.
Born on July 12, 1963, in Waterloo, Iowa, Cyndi was the daughter of the late George and Eunice (Huber) Hayden. She was educated from East High School in Waterloo and remained a lifelong resident of the city. In 2002, she married David Lyons, with whom she shared many cherished years.
Cyndi dedicated her career to Covenant Medical Center, where her compassion and commitment touched countless lives. Her work was a reflection of her kind heart and unwavering dedication to helping others.
A woman with a zest for life, Cyndi embraced adventure and lived boldly. She loved riding her motorcycle, camping under the stars, and creating lasting memories with her grandchildren. Her vibrant personality shone through in her laughter and every conversation she had. Cyndi valued her family, friends, work and the connections she made throughout her life.
A member of Hope City Church in Waterloo, Cyndi nurtured her faith through volunteering and fellowship.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, David; three sons: Darren (Sara) Bruess of Waterloo, Justin (Lindsay) Bruess of Waterloo, and Matthew (Heather) Bruess of Janesville; a daughter, Kari (Kelsey) Rainbow of Elk Run; grandchildren: Spencer, Cameron, Maysen, Hayden, M.J., Bowen, and Breena; great-grandchild Berkley; brothers Dennis (Loretta) Hayden of North Carolina and Richard and James Smith of Waterloo; sisters Ruth (Wayne) Thoren and Sharrie (Denis) Morrow of New Hartford; and numerous in-laws including Michael (Janet), Scott, K.C. Lyons, Cheryl (Jeff) Voelschow.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Eunice Hayden; Dorothy "Dot" Smith; and several in-laws.
A celebration of Cyndi's life will be held at Eagles Club in Waterloo at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cyndi's family for future designation. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
