Cynthia Anne Sidey Buck passed away on December 26, 2025 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She was 69 years old.

Born September 3, 1956 in Tarrytown, NY, Cindy was the eldest daughter of Hugh and Anne Sidey. She spent most of her early years with her three treasured siblings in Potomac, MD, before heading off to Purnell School (NJ) and Briarcliff College (NY). Her innate sense of style led to a degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan and the start of a career at Ralph Lauren during its early days on Connecticut Avenue (Washington, DC).

In 1986, Cindy married John C. Buck, Jr. The couple put down roots in Chevy Chase, MD, where they raised three children: Anne Bayly, John Cochran III, and Thomas Ashby. These three held her heart, and watching them grow into kind, thoughtful adults filled her life with endless joy. She was particularly fond of the times they spent together each summer along the shores of Nantucket.

Cindy also had an affection for her family history and, more specifically, her father's hometown of Greenfield, Iowa, where she will be well remembered for her frequent visits. She cherished its shady streets, careworn houses, and broad prairie vistas, which became representative of the memory of her father.

Once her children were grown, Cindy decided to re-enter the workforce. She took a job at the White House Historical Association, where she was able to indulge her love of history and pride in her father's legacy as a chronicler of the White House and the American presidency.

Throughout her life, Cindy maintained an eye for detail and delivered special treatment to things others might overlook. She never passed up an opportunity to write a thank you note, regardless of how small the deed rendered in her service. Her prose was bright and cheerful, even when her distinctive handwriting veered toward indecipherable. Her love of baking and legendary sweet tooth were well-suited for the holidays—Valentine's Day being her favorite—which were invariably met with a flurry of cookies, cakes, pies, and other confections, to be widely shared.

As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend, Cindy was well and truly loved by all who knew her. Her memory will remain in our hearts forever.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Cindy's team of caregivers for their love and devotion, particularly Leticia, Marlene, Tia, and Stephanie.

A memorial service is planned for April 18, 2026 at 10:20 am at St. Alban's Episcopal Church (3001 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington D.C. 20016).
