Cynthia Oberts

1939 - 2026

Cynthia Diane Oberts (née Wierzbicki), age 86, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, in Livonia, Michigan. Born on December 10, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, she lived a life marked by creativity, devotion to family, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature.

Cynthia was the beloved wife of Kenneth Oberts. Their marriage spanned an extraordinary 67 years. Cynthia leaves behind her children: Donna Bonnici, Tammy Chappel (Eric), and Jeffrey Oberts. Cynthia's legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Nicholas Sosnowski (Valerie), Kevin Sosnowski, Kenny Sosnowski (Sara), Lydia Chappel-Moore (Maggie), and Tessa Heath (Bryson). She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Jonah Sosnowski.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kasimer and Genevieve Wierzbicki, son Kevin John Oberts, and grandson Naythan Bowers.

Cynthia had a remarkable talent for the arts and crafts that brought joy to those around her. A gifted seamstress and artisan, she found fulfillment in sewing, crocheting, embroidery, and counted cross-stitch. Her passion for porcelain doll artistry led her to become an International Blue Ribbon Doll Artist—an honor that reflected both her skill and dedication. One of her most treasured creations was a delicate Christening gown she crocheted in 1996 for her granddaughter's Baptism, complete with a lovingly tatted baby bonnet.

Her creativity extended beyond needlework into the garden. Cynthia had a green thumb and took great pride in cultivating vibrant flower gardens throughout the years. Her love of nature also drew her to bird watching; she delighted in attracting a wide variety of birds—and even deer—to her feeders. She also enjoyed fishing with her grandsons.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Michigan Humane Society

May her memory bring peace to all who loved her.
