Dale Jack Elwert, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on August 20, 1938, Dale was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Joan, Betty, Don (Judy) Elwert, and Earl (Mary Jane) Elwert. He is survived by his sister Louise (Tom) Simpkins.
Dale leaves behind his devoted wife, Charlotte A. Elwert, and his loving children: son Gary (Jill) Elwert and their son Brendan, and daughter Sara (Kevin) VanWagoner and their children Keira and Lucy. He also cherished his stepchildren, who were like his own: Linda (Jim) Klein, Robert (Paige) Packus, and Caroline (Bob) Bliss.
A proud student at Cass Technical High School, Dale studied drafting and went on to build a remarkable career at Chrysler, where he worked as a manager and engineer until his retirement in 2001. Known for his leadership and dedication, Dale earned the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout his decades of service.
Outside of work, Dale was passionate about golf—never letting weather or circumstance keep him from the course or driving range. He enjoyed a fine scotch and a good cigar, and his charm and humor made him the life of every gathering. Dale was a caring man, a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A private memorial service for family and close friends will be held in February to celebrate Dale's life.
