Dale Luckett, 88, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026.
Dale was born on August 30, 1937, in Bronte, Coke County, Texas, to George Dewey “G.D.” Luckett and Mattie Mae Collins Luckett. He graduated from Bronte High School in 1955 and went on to attend Angelo State University, Sul Ross State University, and Stephen F. Austin State University before being drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country in Okinawa, Japan.
On September 2, 1967, Dale married the love of his life, Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Luckett. Together they built a beautiful life over 58 years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures.
Dale began his career working at a gas processing plant in Silver, Texas, before moving to Amarillo, Texas, where he joined Hartford Steam Boiler Insurance Company as a Boiler Inspector. He dedicated 43 years to his work with HSB, retiring at the remarkable age of 75.
A devoted father and mentor, Dale coached his children’s youth football and track teams and later continued coaching other young athletes, sharing his time, encouragement, and wisdom with many. He had a deep love for travel and, alongside Cindy, visited all 50 states—creating memories that spanned a lifetime.
Dale found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved drawing, gardening, reading, playing solitaire, collecting Kachina dolls, and watching the beautiful sunsets over the Kickapoo Mountains. Family game nights were a favorite, especially when they included a spirited game of Yahtzee.
Known for his wit and sharp mind, Dale had a special ability to find humor in everyday moments. He was a gifted storyteller whose jokes and observations could be playful, dry, and always clever. He shared phrases and melodies from earlier generations—pieces of wisdom wrapped in humor and nostalgia—that left a lasting impression on those who heard them. He brought joy, insight, and connection into the lives of many.
Above all, Dale loved his family and friends deeply and was loved in return.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Cynthia Ann Luckett of San Angelo; his son, Shane Luckett of Baytown; his daughter, Stormy Vaughn and her husband, Bruce Vaughn of Bronte; and his grandsons, Peyton Luckett and Colton Luckett of Baytown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Dewey “G.D.” Luckett and Mattie Mae Luckett; and his siblings, Pat Bryan Oglesby, Billy Joe Luckett, Helen Murtishaw, Joy McDaniel, and Dewey Luckett.
At the family’s request, there will be no services at this time. A celebration of Dale Luckett’s life will be announced at a later date.
His laughter, stories, and love will live on in all who knew him.
