Dale R. Stewart, 79, of White Bear Lake, MN, passed away Friday, January 9, 2026, with his family at his side. He fought a 5+ year battle with Lewy Body Dementia, Parkinson’s, prostate cancer and more.

Dale was born on June 26, 1946, in Washington DC, the first of 6 children in his family. His father was a Chief Warrant Officer, who served 30yrs in the Army during WWII, and his mother was an Army Captain. Dale was raised in Beech Grove, Indiana, but the Army life took him to DC, NJ, VA, and Sendai, Japan. He loved being a US Army kid, raised by the Greatest Generation.

Dale was a student and altar boy at Holy Name Catholic Church and attended Cathedral High School. He graduated St. Joseph’s College, where he wrestled & played football with his favorite Coach Jennings. In 1969, Dale married Kathy Walczak (41yrs), moved to MN, and had 4 kids. He worked at 3M as a Chemist for 37yrs, with his last 20yrs focused on the Automotive Division.

Dale was the King of DIY, loved Craftsman tools and could literally fix, build or create anything, including putting brakes on your car. Dale had a passion for collecting guns and shooting at Oakdale Gun Club. Forever a cowboy at heart, he loved to tip a Gentleman Jack and utter “You’re a daisy if you do”. Dale delighted in photography and evolved from darkroom to digital to framing his masterpieces.

He helped found the St. Pius religious education program and played guitar for worship in church at St. Mary’s. Dale was a Coach for every sport his kids played and taught them how to compete in life. He travelled to Australia, fished in Canada, enjoyed sailing and obtained his pilot’s license in 1985. In retirement, Dale helped Lori hunt treasures and run an antique business in Stillwater.

Dale was incredibly smart, kind-hearted, and funny with his toilet humor. He was the best father and “Poppa Dale”. He relished showing up for his grandkids, always eager to hear their stories and cheer them on. Dale’s imprint will last our lifetimes, keeping his love, legacy, lessons and laughter alive.

Dale is survived by his children Alysia Stewart, Hilary (Aaron) Blazevic, Ben Stewart, grandchildren Shayla, Jordan, Trevor, Brayden, siblings Dana Stewart, Dennis Stewart, Doris Lake, Dolores Chandler. Dale was preceded in death by his infant son Justin, parents Verner & Dolores Stewart, brother Donald Stewart, and Edwin Cabay.

A Celebration of Life and interment will be planned for June 2026 in Beech Grove, Indiana at Holy Name Church & Calvary Cemetery.

We want to extend a special thank you and gratitude to the many Caregivers who have become family to us and helped us along Dale’s journey. We are forever grateful to Johnny, Kim, Jesse, Taylor, Asia, Austin, Brittney, Lizzie & staff.
