Daniel Lee Bumbarger, 73, of Winchendon, MA, passed away on February 5, 2026, at Beth Israel Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA. Born on May 17, 1952, in Philipsburg, PA, Dan was known for his wonderful way of being in the world and his kind, helpful nature. There is no one who met Dan who didn't like him; it never took long to realize what a truly good man he was.

Dan, also affectionally known as "Big Dan," leaves behind a legacy of goodness, love and laughter, survived by his wife, Estelle "Beth" Bumbarger; his son, Daniel Bumbarger of Fitzwilliam, NH; his sisters, Christine Watson and her husband Richard of Culpeper, VA, and Kim Campbell of Morrisdale, PA. His life enriched not only his immediate family but also many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, all of whom he loved and cherished dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis E. Bumbarger Sr. and Ann M. Bumbarger (Yatchik), his brother Lewis Bumbarger Jr., and his sister Debra Conklin.

Dan was a brilliant design engineer who began his career at Digital, where he met his wife, Beth. He later founded his own company, Cosmic Enterprises and eventually Nemonix Engineering. His career often took him all over the world, though he was happiest at home with his wife and son, who were his pride and joy, in Hudson, MA, a community he truly loved and where he was a resident of over 30 years.

In his younger days, Dan was an avid motorcyclist and later became a private pilot, a passion he enjoyed and shared with others for many years. His favorite times were the summers spent at his camp at Woodbrook in Fitzwilliam, cooking outside with family and friends, driving his pontoon boat, fixing golf carts (he was a true golf cart enthusiast) and indulging his pups with too many treats, no matter how many times Beth told him "enough treats!"

A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, February 14, at the First United Methodist Church of Hudson, located at 34 Felton St, Hudson, MA 01749.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan's memory can be made to the Erdheim-Chester Foundation at https://www.erdheim-chester.org. His heroic battle with this rare disease for over 30 years included many experimental studies that have allowed other to live longer lives like he did. Contributions to this foundation will help further research and support others facing similar challenges, continuing Dan's legacy of helping others.
