Daniel "Dan" Victor Cassin, 69, of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday evening, December 17, 2025. He was born on April 24, 1956, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Joseph and Maxine Cassin.
Dan was a devoted musician and educator, but above all else, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Dan earned his Bachelor of Music from Loyola University New Orleans and his Master of Performance from Louisiana State University. As a cellist, he was a longstanding member of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, the Valcour String Quartet, and Caladium Piano Trio. He shared his passion for music as a Professor of Cello at Southeastern Louisiana University and as a private cello instructor, teaching students from all walks of life with patience, encouragement, and genuine care. In addition to his work as a musician and educator, Dan served as Vice President in Charge of Production for Centaur Records.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer; his son, Benjamin (partner, Morgan); his daughter, Olivia (fiancé, Matthew); and his granddaughter, Emilia.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at the Unified Jewish Congregation of Baton Rouge, located at 3354 Kleinert Ave, Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
