Dr. Daniel Murray "Danny" Philip, 56, of Seminole, Florida, passed away from natural causes on March 25, 2026, in Pinellas Park, Florida. Born on March 17, 1970, in Santa Monica, California, Daniel lived a life dedicated to compassion, humor, connection, and service.
As a young child, Daniel moved with his parents to Davie, Florida, where he attended NSU University School and became affectionately known as "Danny." It was during these formative years that he forged friendships that would stand the test of time.
Daniel's passion for understanding the human mind led him to pursue higher education at the University of Florida. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology before advancing to complete a Master of Education and a Specialist in Education. His journey culminated in earning his Doctorate in Counseling Psychology—a reflection of his dedication to helping others navigate life's complexities.
His professional path began with a predoctoral psychology internship at Appalachian State University. Following this experience, he moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he met his wife and lifelong partner, Nicole. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Jacksonville University and later served as a Staff Psychologist and Training Director. During the same time period, he also served as a Professor at the University of North Florida. In these roles, Daniel combined his love for teaching and mentorship with providing therapeutic care to college students—nurturing both minds and spirits.
The latter part of Daniel's career was devoted to serving veterans as a Psychologist at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. Over 16 years at the VA, he held numerous roles that showcased his expertise and empathy. As a Psychologist and later as a Program Manager, he provided vital support to veterans with great care and understanding. Additionally, as the Training Director of the residency program, Dr. Philip mentored and guided many psychologists who have gone on to serve veterans across the nation. His contributions left an enduring impact on his colleagues, students, and the countless veterans whose lives he touched.
Daniel influenced the field of psychology at the national level through his involvement with the American Psychological Association's Continuing Education Committee and its Advisory Board.
Daniel's personal life was equally vibrant. A lover of knowledge and trivia, he delighted in learning for its own sake. Sports were another passion—he played soccer in his youth and spent years cheering enthusiastically for the University of Florida Gators and the Seattle Seahawks. A self-proclaimed "foodie," Daniel had an affinity for French cuisine and cooking alongside Nicole. Growing up in the hospitality industry instilled in him an appreciation for good food paired with great company—sharing meals filled with conversation brought him immense joy.
Music played an integral role in Daniel's life; fittingly, it accompanied him on his final day as he listened to songs sent by friends. He passed peacefully outdoors, holding Nicole's hand and listening to their wedding song. He and Nicole shared a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure.
The couple traveled extensively across America's natural wonders—visiting 27 national parks, including Grand Teton, Bryce Canyon, and Glacier—each of which held a special place in his heart. They embraced nature's beauty side by side. Daniel also found comfort in time spent with their beloved canine companions, Elsa, Ben, and Jolie.
His devotion extended beyond family bonds into friendships nurtured over decades; frequent trips back home connected him with lifelong friends from South Florida.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife, Nicole Murrey Philip; his parents, Jean Bernard and Annette Maria Philip; his aunts Claudia Jentgen and Linda Weatherholt; his uncle Fred Crawford (Karen); and numerous cousins and close friends.
Dr. Daniel Murray Philip will be remembered not only for his professional legacy but for the warmth he brought into every room he entered—the humor that lifted spirits—and above all else—the kindness that defined him. May memories of him bring solace to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
