Daniel "Dan" Steele of Dedham MA, formerly of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2026, with his family at his side.
Son of the late Frederick Steele and Mary Steele (Thompson). Loving husband of 63 years to Doris Steele (Lyons) of Dedham and loving father to Daniel Steele of Norfolk, Thomas Steele of Dedham, Jeanine McInnis of Quincy and Christine McGuiggan of Canton. Loving brother of David Steele of Indianapolis IN. Proudest Papa to Sean McInnis and Bridgit McInnis of Quincy. Daniel is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and lifelong family friends. He was predeceased by his brother Frederick Steele, and his sisters Barbara Grant and Susan Harris.
Daniel grew up in Hyde Park and loved that his backyard abutted the George Wright Golf course. He had many wonderful stories about growing up with his siblings and friends on Braeburn Road and hanging down Cleary Square, speaking of those memories often and always with a great smile.
After serving in the Army, Daniel returned home and soon married the love of his life, Doris. Dan & Doris were amazing together over their 63-year marriage and always made everyone around them feel loved and feel a part of their family.
Dan was a proud member of Teamsters Local 25 for most of his career, working as a HVAC technician. But, after retiring, he kept busy and always sought out many different challenges and opportunities - even going back to the classroom to learn how to build computers from scratch, just "to prove he could".
Dan was always one with a story to tell, and yes, maybe the fish got bigger each time, but his stories were vibrant, detailed, and made you feel right there with him, no matter the memory. He was an extremely fun-loving and adventurous person and Dad. He just loved loving life, and it showed every day. Whether it was taking his family camping all around New England, playing "killer diller" or pickle with the neighborhood kids, playing every and any sport he could, coaching his sons' little league teams or his daughters' softball teams - he did all with enormous energy, happiness, and commitment.
Dan had so many passions in life. He loved cooking (especially as his son Tommy's sous chef), music - from Mozart to Led Zeppelin to Dolly Parton, photography, wine, gardening, hockey, horseshoes, golf, softball - you name it, he tried it and put his all into it.
Dan's greatest passion, though, was his family. There is no other place he would want to be than around the family dinner table on a Sunday. He loved entertaining and welcoming friends and family to the table. Everyone who had ever graced his table became family to him. Dan was always one for a heartfelt toast to let everyone know how blessed he knew he was. Daniel will be missed by so many.
A celebration of Dan's life will take place on Saturday, February 28th from 12 - 4pm at the American Legion in Dedham MA. All who knew Dan are welcome to celebrate a life well lived.
