Daniel Christopher Zimbaldi, a Los Angeles-based photographer and filmmaker, died on November 21, 2025.
He was born on April 19, 1945 in Los Angeles to Andrew and Laura Zimbaldi. He attended Loyola High School, was a graduate of University of Southern California School of Architecture and spent a year in North Carolina as a Vista volunteer.
A photographer and filmmaker, Daniel pushed the boundaries of artistic expression. He was an early experimenter in video production and collaborated with influential artists including Chris Burden and Bill Viola. In 1990, he co-founded Zona Productions, a pioneering motion-control and production services company, and later became a sought-after digital imaging technician and technology consultant for television, commercial, and artistic projects.
As a director, Daniel created documentary short films about artists Peter Shelton and Philip Vaughan, and videos for New Village Girls Academy.
He was generous with his time and expertise, working with friends and colleagues to navigate technical challenges and find creative solutions.
Daniel was deeply passionate about filmmaking, photography, art, and travel, and embraced the world in its fullest capacity.
He is survived by his partner of 15 years, Lyn Goldfarb, and his brother, Andrew Zimbaldi.
