Darnell Betts, also known as Don, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at the age of 92. He was born on August 22, 1933 near Raleigh, North Carolina. He was proud that he lived a long life and accomplished much, including driving a 26-foot moving truck (with a car trailer attached) approximately 2400 miles across the country at the age of 91. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. He is survived by his wife, Edna; his daughter, Emilda and her husband, Edward; his daughter, Darna and her husband, George; his daughter, Eara; two granddaughters, Emerald and Endya; three grandsons, Alexander, Thomas, and Lucas; and he is remembered with love by siblings and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Suncrest Hospice and Home Instead for the care and compassion they showed in his final days. Darnell loved conversation and his caregivers were always willing to engage.
Darnell believed in "giving people their flowers" before they died. With this in mind, please consider making a donation in his honor to The
American Heart Association and/or the National Kidney Foundation.
